MISSIONARY PORTAL

Missionary portal is a really neat tool. After you receive your call, you can use your LDS account to log into missionary portal at missionary.lds.org. It's basically the central location for everything you'll need to prepare for your mission.

The first page includes several links and checklists. There are a few things you should do immediately once you receive your mission call, such as review your call packet and the travel information inside, getting your required immunizations, and defering from the military if you are currently serving. After you finish this checklist, there is a pre-missionary training center (MTC) checklist of things you should do before you enter the MTC.

If you click on the link to view your immunizations, a series of tabs will appear that will tell you which required and recommended immunizations you have already received and which you still need to get. Until you enter in each of your immunizations, you will get an email every week reminding you to do so. Once they have all been entered, you will need to print out your list of immunizations to take with you to the MTC. Without this list, they will not be considered valid and you will need to have them again.

The missionary training tab has a list of spiritual training you should complete before entering the MTC. The District is a series of 6 30-minute videos explaining the planning and teaching of a mission and what it will be like. For foreign missionaries, there are also several 1 to 5-minute videos that accompany reading Preach my Gospel chapter 7. They explain the gift of tongues and how you can receive it. Other checklist items include reading the missionary handbook, reading Preach my Gospel chapter 7, reading the BOM all the way through, getting a temple recommend, reading a section on adjusting to missionary life, printing out your fan chart on familysearch.org and creating a mormon.org profile.

Another recommended idea is to study the lessons in Preach my Gospel chapter 3 and practice teaching them to a family member or friend. One thing I tried that has been really helpful has been teaching lessons to my friends of other faiths. It gives you more of the kinds of experiences you would actually encounter on your mission. Plus, it's a great missionary tool.

Also on the first page are links to dress and grooming and a link to create a mormon.org profile.

Clicking the dress and grooming link will allow you to view many examples of clothing that is appropriate for missionaries to wear. This way you can gauge what styles of clothing you own that would you would be able to take with you.

Last, but not least, is your missionary email. This can be found either by clicking on the Letters and Mail tab at the top of the page, or by logging in to ldsmail.net. You can choose what you want your email to be, but for most missionaries it is firstname.lastname@myldsmail.net. Once you have logged into your email, you will begin to receive emails regarding immunizations, travel, and information from your mission president. Avoid sending out emails to friends and family using this account until you are actually out on your mission.

Missioanry portal is very easy to use and a great way to track your progress as you prepare for a mission. If you have any questions about missionary portal, feel free to leave a comment below!
